This will be a practical presentation and demonstration of how to apply ontologies in a typical IT environment, using Adaptive's Metadata Manager repository and making use of OMG standards such as MOF, XMI and CWM to integrate with other tools. FIBO (Financial Industry Business Ontology) will be used as an example.

It will include:

  • using FIBO as a business glossary
  • automated and drag-and-drop mapping from existing glossaries and data models to FIBO, including: ER and relational models, JSON schemas, business intelligence reports
  • reporting and collaboratingon the alignment
  • using FIBO to analyze semantic integrity of data movement such as via ETL tools
  • summary of benefits


James has a Bachelor’s in Computer Science degree from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He has more than twenty years experience working for leading edge software companies enabling the company’s strategic vision to be realized in world-class software implementations. He has worked in software development, consulting and product management roles and has extensive expertise in object-oriented technology, meta-modeling and enterprise architecture.

Pete Rivett is CTO of Adaptive Inc, a company specializing in the application of metadata and repositories to enterprise modeling and bridging the gap between business and IT. Pete has spent his career in modeling and the development of repository and metadata management software. He works with customers on leading edge projects and is a regular conference speaker. Pete graduated from Manchester University (England), with a First Class BSc. Honours degree in Computing and Information Systems. During a ten year period at ICL, he worked in a variety of leading-edge product development roles, culminating in Chief Architect for their Repository program.
