This panel discussion is about planning for and implementing data stewardship in an organization. The speakers will share their best tips and tricks for making progress, and help you avoid potential pitfalls along the way. Among the themes will be advice on:
  • Standing up a stewardship program with an focus on the data quality components of the process
  • Key learnings and do’s/don’ts
  • Integrating data quality issue management into both the corporate culture as well as into the stewardship process


With over 15 years experience in IT and Data Management, Joel has spent his career in helping companies develop solutions to complex problems and moving their maturity level forward. Joel holds an MBA with a concentration in Data Science and Business Analytics and a Masters of Science in Information Technology.

Laura Sebastian-Coleman, Data Quality Center of Excellence Lead at Cigna, has worked on data quality in large health care analytic data warehouses since 2003. Cigna is a global health service company dedicated to helping people improve their health, well-being and sense of security. Laura has implemented data quality metrics and reporting, launched and facilitated data quality working groups, and contributed to data consumer training programs. She has led efforts to establish data standards and to manage metadata for large analytic data warehouses. In 2009, she led a group of analysts at Optum in developing the original Data Quality Assessment Framework (DQAF) which is the basis for her book "Measuring Data Quality for Ongoing Improvement" (Morgan Kaufmann, 2013). She is the DAMA Publications Director and is the 2015 recipient of the IAIDQ Distinguished Member Award.

Lakshmi Randall is an industry expert, analyst and strategist who formerly conducted research for Gartner. She has 19+ years experience in Information Management and Analytic domains who has worked for industry leaders such as Microsoft. She is a big advocate of, and has published research on, the importance of data preparation. Among her clients, she has a reputation for being an informative, trusted adviser who never comprises her objectivity.

Chris has been in the financial services industry for his entire 32-year career. He’s led both IT and Operations businesses, with a concentration on Data Management disciplines. Favorite areas of focus include: data modeling, database design and data quality control. Chris earned his MBA from Temple University and also holds PMP and Green Belt certifications. Currently, he is setting up the data governance and stewardship practice within the Client Services Group of TIAA.
